Drawing inspiration from the exquisite custom furniture by Arts and Crafts Architects Greene & Greene, the second of a set of nightstands explored the 90-degree angle as a means of proportioning and dictating form. Each piece is anchored via intricate joinery of dowels for the structure, and box joints for the drawer box. The extrapolated 'cloud lifts' for the drawer housing echo traditional Japanese woodworking motifs, and balance the heavy upper half to its lighter lower counterpart. The tung oil and wax let the emphasis on craft and natural beauty shine through, as no decision was meant to be tucked away. A semester-long project, this second completely hand-drafted and made installment acts as an ode to a bygone era in craft, intention, and design capabilities.
